What kind of mathematical system is human society?

Malthus and Turchin each wrote down a mathematical relation governing agrarian society, and our society's founder wrote down another for industrial society. This page sets out what these relations are and how far the Ekumene simulation has tested them: the model reproduces the textbook conclusions, but the process that produces them differs from history in three respects. With a cell-by-cell replay of fifteen hundred years in Mesopotamia.

After the Industrial Revolution, what kind of mathematical system is human society?

Why the return capital expects has long exceeded economic growth; and how, twice in the two centuries since the Industrial Revolution, capital went first into new technology, then abroad and into land and lending, and each time ended in a clearing. Told with two hundred years of wealth data for the world and for Britain.

He Kept a Household in Manila

Huang Kaiwu went to Manila in 1907 to open a draper's shop and died there in the 1940s. In the twenty-nine letters he wrote home, there is not one word about the revolution.

I Can Boil Sugar Too

In 1874 the Qing government sent three commissioners to Cuba to investigate the condition of Chinese labourers. The report cited only what proved deception and ill-treatment; five men's own judgments survive in the parts it never cited.

Only His

The oasis of Niya in the kingdom of Shanshan, third century CE. Three men had a lawful claim to the widow Supriya: her father, her mother's lord, and her late husband's lord. Three-flow circulation: British railways, 1884–1912

Around 1900 the share of receipts that British railways spent on working rose from about 56% to 64% and never came back. Costs, rates and train loads are compared across fourteen large companies: coal and wages rose, the 1894 Act kept rates from rising, and the companies ran fewer trains and loaded them more heavily.

Why the Roman Republic Had No Parties: Forming a Faction Was Itself an Accusation

Of the more than 182,000 Latin inscriptions that can be searched by computer, 984 contain collegium (association) and only one contains coniuratio (conspiracy), and that one is a colonial law forbidding such gatherings. Judging sentence by sentence whether a dozen words for joining together are praised or condemned in Cicero, Livy and other authors, and comparing decrees of the Senate and Roman law, the paper shows that the Romans had no legitimate name for a horizontal political association.

Why China Had No Autonomous Cities: The Procedures by Which Urban and Rural Groups in Qing Hsinchu Obtained Standing

Weber held that groups in Chinese cities could not make contracts or go to law in their own name, while villages could, through the village temple. Yamen documents from Qing Hsinchu show that the headmen of the city gates and of the villages obtained office by exactly the same procedure: joint nomination, official verification, and the issue of a seal. Whether a group could act in its own name depended on whether the government appointed it or accepted its petitions, not on whether it stood in a city or a village.
